Contract size explained
Check contract size
In order to check your specific broker's contract size for the DAX index, follow these steps:
-
Right click inside the Market Watch panel of your MetaTrader 4 window and select Symbols
-
You will now see a list of categories for the available symbols
-
Next, find the category containing the German-30 index (DAX)
noteMost brokers will have a Indexes category containing the DAX index (GER30, GER, DE30, DAX30, etc.).
As you can see, there are 2 different Indexes categories: Indexes and Indexes mini. This is a very important difference and we will now see why.
-
Right click on the DAX symbol and select Properties
-
You will now see every property of the selected symbol and we can see the Contract size setting
dangerIn this example, we can see that the contract size is too large (100)! We require a contract size between 1 and 25!
-
Now let's compare this to the DAX.mini symbol from the Indexes mini category
successIn this example, we can see that the contract is perfect (1)! We require a contract size between 1 and 25!
We have now successfully identified the DAX.mini symbol and verified the correct contract size!
